Whenever I come across an art book or magazine that inspires me, I like to share it with others so that they, too, can experience this valuable resource for themselves.

I've just taken a look at the Spring issue of Artists on Art magazine and am extremely impressed. This is a digital magazine that you can access online which includes articles written directly by artists. There are no advertisements, just one packed article after another. The magazine not only contains high res images, but also includes video as well.











My favorite feature about this online magazine is that you can click an image of a painting once and it brings up a high res image which allows you to see more detail. If that wasn't enough, you can also click the high res image and it will bring up an additional image which allows you to get even closer to the painting to study every brush stroke. It's a similar experience to being at a museum, only there are no guards around telling to stand back from the painting.





If you're looking for an art resource that will educate and inspire you in your studies, I highly recommend taking a look at Artists on Art magazine. Here's a short preview of their Spring issue that they've just posted on YouTube.

The availability of high resolution images sounds really neat. I know that I like being able to look up close on paintings done by great masters!

Speaking of being able to look up close on paintings, on your "learn" tab you have a step by step demonstration of a painting of a girl. It has been very helpful to me, and I finally decided to try applying it to my own portrait. I'm really excited to see the difference it's made in my painting already. I do have some questions though.

1. I noticed that about three times through the process you applied fresh blocks of color to her face, and then proceeded to smooth it out. How did you smooth it? I've found this very difficult.
2. What color of white do you use?
3. How do you work in the details? Do you use a small brush, or a large one? Do you complete most of the painting with a large brush and then finish up with a small one?
4. Do you ever directly apply white to your painting?
5. How do you keep your layers from clogging each other and becoming really thick on the canvas?
