As part of the commission process, Brian prefers to talk with the client in order to discuss the following before scheduling the portrait sitting:
Subject – Single or Multiple Figures
Location – Indoors or Outdoors
Dress and Attitude – Informal or Formal
Size of Painting – Head & Shoulders, 3/4 Figure, Full Figure, or Canvas Size
Sittings take place at the client’s home or choice of location. This is a photographic session which lasts between one and two hours, depending on the number of figures and the complexity of the composition.
Preliminary studies are painted for the client’s review before proceeding to the final portrait. These 10″ x 8″ studies give the client a good idea of the intended pose, color and composition of the final painting and may be purchased at the cost of 10% of the price of the final portrait.
Here’s an example of a final portrait along with the preliminary studies that were shown to the client before starting the final painting.
